The Wedding Day Part 1

Well, Marc and Kristin could not have asked for better weather (well, they could have, but it wouldn't have been possible). It was sunny and not too warm--just perfect. When John and I woke up that morning, Jerry was already up, writing his blessing for the reception dinner that night. Joan was on her way to pick up Grandma Anne to get their hair done. The wedding was at 4pm, and they weren't doing any pictures beforehand, so John and Marc didn't need to get there until 3:30pm, so we had plenty of time to go to CVS--or so we thought. John and I went to the mall to get a different battery charger for our new digital camera, and then we picked some things up at CVS. When we got back, at about 1pm, the fur was ready to fly in the office! Jerry was printing the programs (we had just gotten the email with the the file for the programs that morning) which were double-sided, and of course something got confused and we ended up with quite a number of programs with the same thing on both sides. And of course there wasn't any extra paper. So, John and I run down to Staples to get more paper. Armed with twice as much paper as we needed, we rushed back to the house and handed it all to Jerry, who had fortunately managed to print out a stack of programs, ready for us to fold (and of course, they were tri-folded). John, Joan and I sat down at various tables and got to work. Shortly thereafter, Marc and his friend Black Paul (I swear that is what they call him, apparently there's a White Paul running around out there, too) showed up and began folding programs as well. John started making sandwiches--it was about 2pm and none of us had eaten lunch. At about 2:30 or so, we had all of the programs finished and Jerry thought it might be nice if he showered before the wedding. Marc, John, and Black Paul started to get ready. Suddenly, and very unexpectedly, all of the groomsmen were at the house needing to get ready, and hadn't eaten lunch. Joan put on some hotdogs and people took turns eating and changing into tuxedos. Finally, Joan started getting ready, and I didn't want to be the last one done so I started getting ready as well. After much fixing of the collars and ties and jackets, John and Marc headed off to the church, with the groomsmen not far behind. Paul (Jerry's brother), and Pam (his wife) showed up at the house just before we were leaving. Finally, we were all heading to the chapel to see Marc get married.

We arrived in plenty of time and I wandered into the vestry to see how Marc and John were doing. Marc looked pretty calm, and the priest was there, so that was good. Now, all we needed was Kristin. Pretty soon, they shut the inside doors to the entrance hall, and we knew the bride had arrived! The parents were seated to Ave Maria, which was beautifully sung by Marilyn, one of Joan's friends. Next came the bridal party, then finally the doors were opened and the bride and her father entered--all smiles and a few tears, just like a wedding should be! Everything went smoothly for the Mass, except for the one moment that Kristin's veil came off, but she was cool and calm about that and it was back in place by the end of communion.

The receiving line was at the church, which made for a somewhat long exit, but it gave everyone a chance to chat. Then, the bridal party took a few pictures at the church, and Kristin and Marc hopped into the Rolls Royce, and the bridal party into the limo and they headed off to the reception with champagne for all. The reception was at the Atkinson Country Club in New Hampshire (for the midwesterners out there, it was only about 30 minutes away--the states are small out here). While the guests lingered over cocktail hour, the wedding party took more pictures and waited for their names to be announced.
