A bit of confusion

(Note: I'm posting more than once in a day, so you may want to scroll down to make sure you've seen the previous post)

There was a leeetle problem when we got to our new apt. building. The apt. they had set aside for us was not like the apt. they had showed us. Now, when we had seen an apt. back in August, we knew it was not the apt. that we were getting but we were assured we would get one exactly like it. This apt. was not exactly like it. It was 6 square feet bigger and, therefore, should cost us more, but we weren’t worried about that since we had already signed a rental agreement for a specified amount. No, what bothered us was: 1. we didn’t like the layout, and 2. it wasn’t move-in ready. And our furniture was arriving early the next morning. The reason it wasn’t move-in ready was because there was some confusion with the maintenance staff who thought that since we weren’t moving in on the 20th, we weren’t moving in at all. The manager on duty was a temp, the other woman being out sick. Also, the temp hadn’t been told someone was moving in that day, so when we arrived she was at lunch. Then, when we did talk to her, it took quite some time to get everything situated (because she had to call the district office), then when we went to do the move-in inspection, we found out it was the wrong apt. More confusion ensued because she had taken a holding deposit for the only other apt. in the building with the floor plan like the one that we had seen. Calling of the regional supervisor ensued. Lots of conversation. Honestly, it was a miracle we didn’t go postal after having spent the last week driving across the country and being generally tired and cranky. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, it was all fixed and we got an apt. like the one that we were shown. Talk about a nail-biter! (Oh, and we had to call the electric company to tell them that we didn’t want electricity in apt 116, but that we would like it in 106 and if that could be done before the end of the day because we wanted to have electricity over the weekend, please and thank you, and yes, we knew it was already 4:30, and yes, we agree, it would’ve been much better for all concerned if we had been able to tell them this the day before, but as we just found out ourselves about 20 minutes ago that we were getting a different apt., we had let them know as soon as we possibly could; fortuitously, by some miracle, the electricity was already on in 106).

We went out for dinner and after a lovely chocolate martini, I felt a lot better. We inflated the air-mattress. We checked for free wireless. We found directions for Ikea. We went to bed.

Oh. My. God! I certainly would have gone postal! Certainly! May the rest of your moving process go smooth as silk!

Only one martini? Impressive!
